The Venue

The Sweeney is a Georgian country house hotel in Oswestry (based closed to the Shropshire and Mid Wales border), and a renowned wedding venue in Shropshire.

Our family owned and run hotel brings with it that special comfortable feeling, something we want our wedding couples to feel during their special day.

Our team, led by Sean has seen over 1000 couples celebrate their wedding at The Sweeney. We believe that every wedding is unique – much like our beloved hotel and wedding venue.  With each wedding our passion grows, our venue transforms and another couple joins the Sweeney family – something we take huge pride in.

Civil Ceremony and Reception Venue

We are licensed to hold civil ceremonies in 2 areas at The Sweeney – The Netherton Suite and the Conference Room.

At The Sweeney your wedding reception can be hosted in a choice of rooms, depending on how many guests you wish to attend. This includes:

  • The Netherton Room (up to 72 guests)
  • The Conference Room (up to 25 guests)
  • The East Wing (up to 18 guests).

We can also host up to 130 guests by joining a marquee on to the side of the Netherton Suite.

Photo ready grounds and gardens

We know that once your wedding day has passed, your photographs will be the memories you keep, and look back at time and time again.

Our gardens, the surrounding parkland and extensive views of the Shropshire countryside are the perfect backdrop for your wedding photographs.

The garden is home to a protected species of rare orchid, huge displays of daffodils in the spring, and rose trellises in the summer.  In fact, whatever the season our grounds look stunning – even when covered in virgin snow so you will have plenty of options for your photography!
